“Where am I?” He asked with his head in his hands. His deep Violet hair was blocking the sunlight coming in a large window that he knew wasn’t his own.
“House.” Said a little girl and the boy instantly looked up. When he did he knew he was no longer in his own run down room, but in a huge ball room with a tiny girl standing in front of him.
“I can see this is a house,” He said trying to be kind to the little girl, seeing as she looked to be only about five, “but where is this house.”
“House is everywhere.” She said. “House is all around you. House is my only friend, but House brought you here to be my friend too.” She grabbed onto the teenager’s hand and smiled.
“Is House a person?” He asked, not really sure what to make of this child’s chanting of ‘House, House, House’.
“Not really.” She said. “House is alive, but House is still just a house, but a magical one. Hey, if you’re going to be my friend, we should know each other’s names.”
“I’m Calix, Calix Vara.” He said, deciding to give up on figuring out who House is.
“I’m the mistress of this house. I’m Adi, but I don’t have a last name.” She frowned, “Can I have yours?”
Calix rubbed awkwardly at his hand, “Sure.”
“Yay!” Adi began running around the room chanting, “Adi Vara, Adi Vara! House did you hear that? I have a last name now!”
Suddenly a small slot opened in the ceiling and a letter fell before Calix. He caught it on its’ descent down. The letter addressed him personally on the front.
The teen opened the letter and carefully read the contents.
Dear Calix,
You have pleased me. You have made The Mistress Adi happy. That is your job. You are her guardian now, The Guardian. I have chosen you to complete this task. If you fail I will send you to my basement. If you keep The Mistress happy you will have free reign inside me. Guard this house and all that is in it, Guardian.
Sincerely,
House.
“House is the house.” Calix said after reading the letter a few times.
Adi nodded, “Yes. What did the letter say?”
“That I am The Guardian, of this House, and of you.”
Adi just smiled. That seemed to make her more than content. “I’m glad. I won’t be alone anymore. Were you alone?”
The boy had given up any idea of fighting his way out, maybe this was what was meant to be after all. “I was, but it never bothered me until now.”
“Why just now?”
He looked at her long and slow, but she was very patient for a little girl. “I never realized I was alone until I wasn’t. I always was, so I never noticed.”
“Well, now you’re not.” Adi’s tiny finger’s gripped his hand.
Calix opened his eyes, why was he dreaming about that now?
This is a pass-along story between group members. This is Chapter one of that story. Each Chapter is five hundred words. The writer must stop at 500 words, even if that's mid-sentence.
